"The statesman who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no council or senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it."

Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart - February 8, 2012

Dear Friends,

As it stands today, we are less than nine months away from the most important election in many of our lifetimes. On November 6th, citizens across our country will take to the polls in record numbers to voice their opinions on the very future of our great nation. And while Election Day will be the culmination of our efforts, the ultimate outcome could very well be decided by what happens between now and then.

In just 27 days, Georgians will cast their first vote for the next Republican President of the United States of America. As the largest delegation on Super Tuesday (and 4th largest in the nation!), Georgia is uniquely positioned to play a central role in the selection of our Party’s nominee like never before. Not to be overlooked, we will also be hosting the 2012 Super Tuesday Republican Presidential Debate on March 1st, an endeavor in which we are partnering with CNN.

In addition to the national spotlight shining on Georgia’s Republican Primary, we are also thrilled that our GAGOP Convention Cycle will begin in just over a week. Mass Precinct Meetings will be held on Saturday, February 18th, and Delegates and Alternates to the upcoming March 10th County Conventions will be elected at this time.

Governor Deal Announces Needs-Based Scholarship

AT&T contributes first gift to privately funded foundation that aids deserving students

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced the launch of the state’s new needs-based college scholarship program, the REACH Scholarship (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen). At Georgia Tech, Deal kicked off an aggressive fund-raising campaign by announcing the REACH Scholarship’s first corporate sponsor, AT&T, which donated $250,000.

“The REACH Scholarship continues our state’s ongoing commitment to providing access to higher education for all Georgians, regardless of their income,” said Deal. “This scholarship will reward students for self accountability, promote parent involvement and provide motivation and support; all factors that we know are critical in student educational achievement.

“Contributions from companies such as AT&T are important to this effort. This gift demonstrates that AT&T understands the need to ensure that all Georgia students have access to post-secondary opportunities. We encourage other Georgia companies and citizens to get involved in this effort.”

Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart - January 25, 2012

Dear Friends,

With Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina in the Republican rear-view mirror and four strong presidential candidates currying favor with GOP voters in every corner of our country, one thing is clear – it is time for Americans to pick the next President of the United States of America!

Though the Presidential Election does not officially take place until Tuesday, November 6th, the eyes of the nation have been watching our presidential race unfold for several months now – and for good reason. The past three years have shown just how disastrous the consequences can be when an inexperienced and unqualified candidate takes the helm of the White House. Our Republican presidential candidates have been vigorously vetted and battle-tested, and I am proud to say that I would support any one of them as our nominee.

Letter from Governor Nathan Deal

Friends:

The New Year marks the beginning of the legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly – and with that another chance to fight together for limited government and tax reforms that will make Georgia the best place in the nation to do business.

As I highlighted in my State of the State address this month, one of the core values of the Republican Party is that government should provide essential services, provide them efficiently, and then proceed to let people live their lives free of interference. Using this as a guiding principle, I was able to form my budget without raising taxes, while keeping a conservative outlook for the future.

It will excite fiscal conservatives that we have applied zero-based budgeting on approximately 10 percent of state programs, which will help ensure that taxpayer dollars continue to be used in the most efficient and effective ways possible. We have continued our push to reduce the size of government, with many departments reducing their spending levels by an additional 2 percent from last year. Perhaps most telling, when adjusted for inflation, per-capita spending in my budget recommendation for next year is 20.5 percent less than 2002 spending levels. We have reduced the state workforce by 7.7 percent since 2001, even as the state population grew by roughly 1.5 million over that period.

Georgians have charged me with the responsibility of setting the course for our state and they have defined the items that make up that course toward better opportunities. Those topping the priority list are jobs, education, and safety and I have highlighted them below.

Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart - January 11, 2012

Dear Friends,

It is no secret that the size and scope of the Federal Government has grown tremendously under the watchful eye of President Obama. Whether it is the governmental seizure of the healthcare industry, the Administration’s recent attempts to censor the Internet or the fact that Barack Obama hands out “Czar” positions like candy to trick-or-treaters, never before have we seen such blatant ‘power grabs’ by our nation’s Chief Executive.

There is one thing that the Obama Administration has not managed to grow, however, and that is the American economy. Since graciously allowing the American taxpayer to foot the bill for his miserably failed $787 billion stimulus program, Barack Obama has continued to max out America’s credit cards. In fact, by the end of his first term in the White House, President Obama will have accumulated more debt than each of the previous 43 presidents – combined.

As any successful businessperson will tell you, growth in the private sector comes in spite of the government, not because of it. Burdensome overregulation, reckless taxation and public sector favoritism have become big government staples of the Obama Administration, and have left the American economic engine sputtering. Quite frankly, the Obama economy has had a more adverse effect on the health of America’s financial system than anything else since the Great Depression.

Letter from Congressman Jack Kingston

Dear Fellow Georgians,

The December jobs report issued by the Department of Labor found that the nation added 200,000 jobs in the last month of the year and the unemployment rate fell slightly to 8.5 percent. This marks the 35th consecutive month in which the unemployment rate remained higher than 8 percent, the benchmark set by President Obama while campaigning for his failed stimulus package.

While the report was better than expected, this rate of job creation is simply not enough. Experts say as many as 250,000 new jobs are need each month just to keep up with population growth much less put those currently unemployed back to work.

This report also belies just how bleak the economy is today. When those who have given up on seeking employment all together and those who are only able to find part time employment are taken into account, the nation’s “underemployment” rate is 15.2 percent, totaling 23.7 million Americans.
